Project Role: Lead Designer & Contract Administrator
Project Build Cost: £340,000
To provide additional living space that allows good access to the garden and transforms the property to generate a feeling of openness whilst having distinctive living areas.
This property was originally designed with a kitchen/dining area, three seperate reception rooms, a utility room and double garage on the ground floor. The client wanted to convert the existing double garage into a large kitchen/family space, utility room and Japanese bathroom. A garage was required to replace the existing one lost by the conversion along with an extension to increase the ground floor living space. Full refurbishment of the first floor bathrooms, rear bedroom, study and ground floor cloakroom were also required. The conversion and extensions resulted in an almost completely open plan ground floor, albeit divided into distinctive living areas. The openness and inclusion of bi-folding doors to the summer room, living room and kitchen/family room allows light to flood through the ground floor and give good access to the garden from the various areas. One of the biggest challenges in this project was ensuring the client had a good experience and was heavily involved in the selection process of materials. Unfortunately, the client's previous experience of construction was enough to have put them off doing this work for over ten years.
